Request for soul/rnb piano

Hey,

I am particularly interested in rnb/soul piano style lessons, especially for singing and accompanying oneself.

  • basic groove possibilities
  • typical piano fills that you will find in rnb
  • textural or rhythmic shifts created between different songs or sections of a song
  • analysis of different rnb style accompaniments to inform own stylistic development

Particular interest in fender rhodes sound and some considerations in terms of adapting piano accompaniments to suit that particular instrument selection.

Thought I would post as I would love to see more content in this particular style for rnb and motown enthusiasts.

Hi Felicity :wave:t2:

Welcome to the PianoGroove community!

Yes we can definitely create some lessons on this style.

I would recommend studying the following 3 jazz courses which contain most of the harmonic material found in contemporary rnb and neo soul styles:

I can create some tutorials on these aspects:

  • basic groove possibilities
  • typical piano fills that you will find in rnb
  • textural or rhythmic shifts created between different songs or sections of a song
  • analysis of different rnb style accompaniments to inform own stylistic development

For the singing/accompaniment component I will find a teacher who can both sing and play the style.

If there are any performers that you like, or specific recordings/videos on YouTube, please share these here or email them to me and it will help me to understand the exact style we are looking for.

Cheers,
Hayden

Hi,

I am also very into New Soul, R&D and all that
I usually transcribe songs that I like from hearing using Youtube not very Hi-Tech but it works for me

Anyhow it would be great if we would have some lessons for this topic as well
And yea of course all the lessons that are here already a lot of them cover some R&B New/Soul aspects

Great stuff - thanks @ariel

The new ‘guest live seminars’ I mentioned here will allow us to introduce new styles and teachers with a quick turnaround time compared to the full courses.

I’ll be creating a poll shortly and will include RnB / Soul / Neo Soul - as genres.

Cheers,
Hayden

I would think you could send in some questions on the next Jon Cleary Livestream. He has some songs I would definitely characterize as R&B like “When you get back”
