Stardust 16 Bar Introduction Tutorial

This is a 2 part lesson on “Stardust” by Hoagy Carmichael. The tune is 48 bars long including the 16 bar introduction. From bar 17 onwards, the tune then follows an ABAC form.

In part 1 of this lesson we are going to arrange the introduction and set the mood for the rest of the arrangement. The intro is quite simple harmonically and so we will add things like upper structures and tritone subs to create more interesting harmonic movement.

In part 2 we will then create a full arrangement incorporating some more advanced chords and voicings.

Thanks Paul… I enjoyed putting the arrangement together… it’s such a beautiful tune and a great suggestion from one of our students!

Yes if possible I’ll always provide a transcription. This one was a little tricky to put together with all the triplet phrases, but it’s looking good in my opinion. I also simplified the transcription towards the end so that it worked with the time signature… study the video to pick up the nuances of the phrasing and timing.

      Cheers,
      Hayden
