Seminar Description
We break down Beegie Adair’s stride solo piano version, exploring her voicings, stride patterns, and phrasing for an advanced holiday sound.

Wonderful Seminar! Thank you so much, Hayden!
Hi Michael,
Thanks for letting me know. I’m really glad you enjoyed the seminar.
It took a lot of practice for me to prepare this arrangement as it’s quite complex. What I play and demonstrate is also somewhat simplified compared to Beegie Adair’s arrangement, but I tried my best to retain the core elements of her playing style.
There are so many wonderful things to learn from her arrangement such as how she embellishes suspended chord to altered dominant movements, and the way she uses slash chords to create more interest in her stride style.
One day I aspire to play these techniques and devices as fluently as she does! :–)
Also what I covered here is just 2/3rds of her arrangement, and I will definitely cover the rest as she introduces more swing rhythm in the last 1/3rd of her arrangement.
I posted the original recording here in the forum: community.pianogroove.com/t/october-seminars-jazzy-christmas-repertoire/13550 (listen to to her arrangement from 2:13 to the end which is the section I didn’t cover).
I’ll see if I can cover the remaining part of her arrangement in December.
Well enjoy working on this arrangement Michael – it’s a really lovely arrangement to play and has so much depth and nuance.
If you have any questions with the material just let me know.
Best,
Hayden
Thank You Hayden so inspiring and wonderfully explained. Thank you for sharing your talent and knowledge with us.
Steve
My pleasure, Steve.
It’s always fun to cover Beegie Adair’s arrangements as I’m an admirer of her playing style.
It did take a lot of practice to prepare for this seminar and so I’m really glad to hear you enjoyed it.
In a future seminar I will cover the rest of her arrangement of this song where she introduces a swing feel – I added a link to the recording above in my reply to Michael.
Talk soon,
Hayden
